About Me

Hello and welcome to my website!
I'm Stephen, from Bend, Oregon. I'm a professional illustrator, fine artist, and art teacher. After going to school, seeing some places, traveling the world and a 10-year stopover in California, I'm back home in Central Oregon.
I'm truly excited that you're here to experience my artwork. I've looked around at what other artists are up to, and I have to say I'm not really sure that my work will conform to any one category or repeating "look" (though time does tell). I am an illustrator at heart, and I'm passionate about fine art and storytelling. I really enjoy design as well, and I often find myself editorializing.
I have been fortunate in the rigor and variety of my formal education and training, and in the skill, knowledge, experience and philosophies of my teachers and mentors. Every artwork I make builds, expands upon and is informed by the preceding one. In this manner, my work is continually evolving and full of variety -- in subject matter, medium and execution. Coming up originally as a concept artist, I suppose this does make sense.
In college I studied fine art, as well as music theory and composition. I earned my MFA in Illustration from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, and I found along the way that I enjoy working in many mediums and studying all subjects. Art for me is a means of expression and meditation as much as it is a philosophy, a science, a method of observing, experiencing, understanding and communicating: how I see life and myself, how I'd like it and me to be.
I hope you enjoy this place! New artwork will appear periodically, so check back from time to time. If you'd like to know more about me or what project(s) I'm currently working on, visit and subscribe to my Studio Blog, where I post my process work and notions. If you'd like to commission or purchase a work of art, or if you have an illustration project for me, I'd love to hear from you. Enjoy your visit!
